It served as the most important religious and intellectual center of the Champa kingdom, which thrived between the 2nd and 15th centuries. Through extensive trade relations with India, the Cham adopted Hinduism and Sanskrit, shaping their sacred culture. The Cham people, lacking agricultural land, relied on piracy and trade, often engaging in wars with the Vietnamese to the north and the Khmers to the west. My Son is considered the Champa culture's equivalent to other grand, Indian-influenced cities in Asia, such as Angkor in Cambodia, Bagan in Myanmar, Ayutthaya in Thailand, and Borobudur in Java. The Cham are best known for their brick sanctuaries, the Cham Towers and temples dedicated to their kings and various divinities, adorned with intricate carvings. Though heavily damaged by time and the Vietnam War, My Son is slowly being restored, and the remaining monuments evoke a sense of awe and contemplation, standing as striking reminders of this ancient culture.

Drive from Chan May Port through the scenic countryside to arrive in Hue, where you'll explore the Imperial Citadel. Recent restoration efforts have revived much of the citadel's former grandeur, though some restoration work is still ongoing. Passing through the impressive Noon Gate, you'll reach the Palace of Supreme Harmony and the newly rebuilt Kien Trung Palace, where major ceremonies were held. Much of the area beyond the palace was damaged during the Vietnam War in 1968, and today, farmers cultivate the fertile land surrounding the walls. See the impressive Dynastic Urns, each depicting a different Vietnamese region, as well as the Pavilion of Benevolence. Next, drive to the peaceful Thien Mu Pagoda, located by the romantic Huong River, where you can relax in the tranquil garden atmosphere and hear mystical tales about the site while learning more about Buddhism. After lunch, continue your journey through pine forests and orchards to visit one of the many imperial tombs in the surrounding countryside. You will board your motor coach for the 15-minute ride to the center of the first stop will be the Museum of Vietnamese History housed in a fine example of Sino-French architecture . It contains an excellent series of exhibits dating from the Bronze Age to the Nguyen dynasty. Continue your drive to the Reunification Palace. This important city landmark was assured its place in history on 30th April 1975, with the Fall of Saigon and ultimately the end of the Vietnam War. The palace is now a museum.
