Windstar has partnered with Expert Expedition Voyage Consultants who will operate the Zodiac boats while also providing insight, education and commentary on the stunning scenery of the Alaskan Wilderness. On your Zodiac expedition through Misty Fjords National Monument you will see 3,000-foot glacier-sculpted cliffs with numerous waterfalls cascading down the cliffs, wildlife like bald eagles, and perhaps brown and/or black bears and mountain goats. Throughout the forest you will find western hemlock, Sitka spruce and western red cedar. Please note : You can conveniently change in your suite. Dress according to the prevailing weather condition; you will be provided with a life jacket. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed and tour operation is weather dependent. As you tour, see sights reminiscent of the many peoples and cultures who founded the City, adventurers and entrepreneurs who wanted to be part of what was to be a transportation hub linking Canada to the countries of the Pacific Rim. From the British gentleman who founded a dairy at Cow Bay and gave it its name, to the Chinese gold miner who started Prince Rupert's longest lasting grocery, from the many shop owners who set up their first businesses in tent towns, to the American and European gentlemen who invested in the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway and its fleet of ships. Stop at a scenic viewpoint and look out over Prince Rupert Harbour and the famous Metlakatla Pass. Imagine this stretch of Northwest Coast as the ice from the last glaciation receded and sea levels rose, but where a few thousand years later the Tsimshian made their winter villages with great cedar houses and canoes, and thrived in the rich coastal landscape. Drive through downtown, take in the diverse styles of architecture, pass City Hall, and head toward the waterfront, the location of Prince Rupert's industrial history. Learn about the modern day port, the transportation hub that now, a century after Prince Rupert was founded, does link Canada to the countries of the Pacific Rim. Stop at the waterfront's Kinsmen Park and visit the Kwinitsa Railway Station Museum, where you will learn about the building of the cross-Canada Grand Trunk Pacific Railway and the founding of the City. Finally travel to the Museum of Northern BC, known for its important First Nations collection, impressive exhibits, knowledgeable guides, and stimulating tours. Connect with the ancient past, exploring the art, history and living culture of the Tsimshian. Then board the bus for the short trip back to the pier, or spend more time and the Museum and enjoy a leisurely downhill walk back to the pier. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Situated high on a promontory overlooking the Prince Rupert Harbor with breathtaking views of the mountains and soaring eagles, the restaurant is known for its North Coast cuisine. Envisioned by Executive Chef Willy Beaudry and the international culinary team, the sampling menu features a variety of fresh and delectable seafood. Nibble your way through small but nourishing bites such as Prince Rupert seafood chowder, Arctic surf clams and more, all accompanied by beer or award-winning wine and ending with a delicious dessert. A brief tour-transfer is included to the crest Hotel and once you've completed your epicurean journey, you may take the return transfer back to the pier or choose to independently explore a local BC wine flight at the Crest and return to the pier at your leisure. Board your motor coach for the 35-minute narrated journey to North Pacific Cannery, a National Historic Site and the oldest intact cannery community left on the British Columbian coast, situated on the Skeena Estuary. The Skeena has provided nourishment, transportation and inspiration to people of the north for over 10,000 years. You will be stepping back in time to discover the cannery's boardwalks, industrial buildings and workers' housing, all built in the late 1800s to facilitate a booming canning operation, the ABC Packing Company, the parent company of North Pacific Cannery, and the world's foremost packer of sockeye salmon, accounting for more than one quarter of British Columbia's total salmon pack. You will be welcomed to North Pacific Cannery, a sprawling historic site expertly restored to its 19 th century condition. Through a 15-minute epic multimedia experience you will travel down 350 miles of the Skeena River, through the fur trade era to the gold rush to the age of paddle wheelers. This will be followed by a 45-minute interactive tour of the cannery complex itself, complete with demonstrations of original machinery. A coastal ecologist will provide hands-on insight into the estuary ecosystem at tidewater before you have an opportunity to explore the cannery gift shop - featuring indigenous artwork and a variety of products by local crafters. A tour guide will accompany the group back to the cruise ship, ready for conversation and questions. Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress for the weather. Begin your journey with a brief transfer aboard an air-conditioned motor coach from the Northland Cruise Terminal . Along the way, your guide will offer insight into the history of Prince Rupert and the surrounding communities. Upon arrival, embark on your hike deep into the rainforest while learning of the various plants and trees, their importance in traditional native medicines and culture, as well as their role in the food chain. Approximately halfway through the hike, you will rest at a viewpoint overlooking the Butze Rapids , a great stop for a picture to remember the moment. The unique tidal rapids reverse direction with the tides; peaceful at high and low tides, roaring with white foam while the ocean tide is flowing. Enjoy homemade granola bars and bottled water at the rapids before returning to downtown Prince Rupert. Upon completion of your hike, you will board your ship. Please note : Wear closed-toe walking shoes and comfortable clothing, bring a rain jacket, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

Fly high above the pristine northern coastline via floatplane and truly appreciate the awe-inspiring scenery of beautiful British Columbia. Only a short drive from the ship is the Seal Cove Seaplane Base, where you will board your aircraft for a journey that will take you over some of the most mesmerizing sights in the Prince Rupert area. Your pilot will be your guide to remote destinations that include the wilderness of the Khutzeymateen Valley, home to the largest population of grizzly bears in the world. Y ou will want to have your camera ready to capture the magnificent scenery of lush rainforest, deep valleys, rugged mountain fjords, spectacular glaciers, cascading waterfalls, winding rivers and remote freshwater lakes. From this bird's-eye view there is also a chance to view wildlife such as eagles, mountain goats, seals, porpoises or whales. Before returning you to solid ground, your flight will set down in a majestic inlet where you will float alongside a glacial waterfall as it plunges into the freshwater lake beside you. Arriving safely back at your ship, you'll agree that this flightseeing adventure is the airborne experience of a lifetime. Please note : Although some walking is required, it is not excessive. This excursion is not recommended for guest with physical limitations as they will be required to maneuver steps and gaps to embark and disembark the aircraft. Here you will be greeted as a guest in time-honored Northwest Coast tradition and formally seated. The Gwis'amiilgigohl Dancers in full ceremonial regalia will entertain and delight as they dramatize ancient stories with songs and mask dancing.
