They became known later as the Skagen painters and they formed an internationally known artist colony. The Skagen painters favorite scenes were the working fishermen, the charming fishermen's cottages, and the picturesque landscapes. Next, you will visit Denmark's most northerly point, Grenen , where two seas, the Skagerak and the Kattegat, meet. Board a tractor trolley for the drive through the sand. Grenen means 'the twig' in Danish and refers not only to the shape of the spit but to the way it sways slowly between east and west, according to wind and currents. You will also see Skagen's collection of lighthouses ; dating from 1627, to the still active lighthouse built in 1858. Return by bus back to the pier. Please note : There are no ramps at the museum or at Grenen. As there are sand, gravel and uneven surfaces at the stops, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. By Danish Law, Drivers and Guides are not obligated to assist guests with limited mobility - meaning guests with limited mobility have to be able to get on/off the motor coach by themselves.
Skagen, Skagen Walking Tour
Skagen, Skagen Walking Tour
Visit the small, picturesque fishing village of Skagen, Denmark's northernmost town. Its origin can be traced back to the 13th century, and for hundreds of years, the fishing trade alone sustained this small community. Start your tour with a transfer to the White Lighthouse, one of the 4 lighthouses found in Skagen. Learn of the importance of the lighthouses as you walk to the bascular lighthouse, the oldest of them. From there you will stroll through the narrow streets in the idyllic residential area and enjoy the quaint yellow houses and red roofs. Pass Brøndum's Hotel and learn of the Skagen painters and the colony they formed before passing the house of the two most famous painters. Continue through the main street of Skagen before you reach the impressive Skagen church, build in 1841 by C F Hansen, an architect who managed to design to the village he had never seen but only heard of. Pause for a photo stop before you walk down to the heart of Skagen, the bustling Marina which during the summer is packed with sailing boats and filled with delighted visitors who spend their time in many of the restaurants situated in this area. From here it's a short transfer back to the pier - or you may opt to stay in town. Please note: Dress in layers with clothing matching the weather conditions. Skagen can be quite windy. Comfortable walking shoes are advised.

Skagen, Concierge Collection: Biking Tour of Skagen
This guided bike trip starts at the pier. Drive through the western part of town to the Kystmuseet Skagen Museum of local history for a photo stop. You will continue on to the former royal summer residence Klitgaarden - now a resort for authors, artists and scientists and the Buried Church which has become covered by sand over the years, so only the bell tower can be seen. Continue past the town hall and follow the beach road to view the old timbered lighthouse - Vippefyret. Continue north to Grenen, the most-northern part of Skagens Odde. This is where the North and Baltic Seas converge and you can experience it standing with one foot in each sea. Walk the 1.86-mile stretch to and from the very tip of Grenen. Grenen is both, the top of Denmark and of the European continent, a gateway as well as a land's-end and an amazing wonder of nature attracting more than 2 million visitors every year. If you choose not to walk out to Grenen, you may take a seat by the ice-cream hut and enjoy the scenery and the fresh air. Bike back to the town of Skagen and along the vibrant marina area where you will see the special fishermen's cottages that dot the area, continue past the Swedish Seamen's Church and back to the cruise quay. Skagen, Splendid Nature of Skagen
Skagen, Splendid Nature of Skagen
The tour will begin with a visit to Råbjerg Mile - the l argest migrating sand dune in Northern Europe and voted the most beautiful place to visit in Denmark. Formed on the west coast in the 16th century during the great sand drift, which dominated the landscape until the 19th century, Råbjerg Mile moves eastward at a rate of approximately 49 feet (15 meters) a year. Climb the 656 feet (200 meters) to the very top of the 131-foot (40-meter) high dune and enjoy fantastic views and great photo opportunities. When standing in the middle of this fantastic migrating dune, it is easy to feel as if you are in a desert. From here, you will be heading north, towards Grenen at the very tip of Denmark. Grenen is a hotspot for migratory birds and each year, thousands of migratory birds navigate the busy 'junction' around the area of Grenen, by Skagen, during their migration on major international migrating routes. This phenomenon attracts birders and ornithologists from all over Europe. To further investigate the life of migratory birds, one of Skagen's four lighthouses has been turned into a scientific bird station and state of the art experience center - Skagen Grey Lighthouse - Center for Migratory Birds. The center provides a new and vivid insight into one of the world's most fascinating natural phenomena, i.e. the ability of migratory birds to fly and find their way across vast distances. On interactive screens, you will be able to follow the migratory birds live from various hotspots at the European continent. While visiting, you can also climb the 223 steps to the very top of the 151-foot (46-meter)-high Grey Lighthouse built in 1858 and enjoy the magnificent view of Skagen and its surroundings. Please note : No ramps at any venue. A few steps can occur at the venues. Age limit is minimum 18 due to Danish Law regarding alcohol consumption. Tour might operate in reverse or alternate order.
